Oprah Winfrey is set to star in an HBO film adaptation of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, which tells the true story of an African-American woman whose cells were used to create the first immortal human cell line, through the eyes of her daughter, Deborah (Winfrey). The film will chronicle Deborah’s search to learn about the mother she never knew and understand how the unauthorized harvesting of her mother’s cancerous cells in 1951 led to medical breakthroughs. So far, 2016 seems to be the year of our new favorite power couple, Samantha Bee and Jason Jones. TBS announced an order for a lot more Full Frontal with Samantha Bee with plans for it to run at least through the end of the calendar year. IFC has greenlit two new comedy series: a new horror comedy from Dana Gould (The Simpsons) called Stan Against Evil and a Funny or Die adaptation of Brockmire starring Hank Azaria (The Simpsons, Night at The Museum. Set to premiere in the fall, Stan Against Evil centers on a disgruntled former sheriff in a small New England town forced to team up with his replacement when demons are unleashed on the town. Brockmire follows a famous MLB announcer (Azaria), who suffers a public meltdown on air after learning of his wife’s straying ways. Brockmire is expected to premiere early next year. (Deadline)
