True Blood meatcake Joe Manganiello has reportedly signed a one-year deal to co-star in HISTORY’s new scripted series Six. The show will center around Navy SEAL Team Six, whose 2014 mission to take out a Taliban leader in Afghanistan goes south when they realize a U.S. citizen is working with the terrorists. Manganiello will play an aggressive military man who was once the squad leader of SEAL Team Six, but is now working in Africa to protect a small village from Boko Haram. (Deadline)
Just when you thought the idea of Bill Hader’s new HBO comedy Barry couldn’t get any better, Henry Winkler joins the cast. Hader stars as the title character, a former marine turned low-rent hit man in the midwest who finds himself at home among a group of hopeful actors in the L.A. theatre scene. Among the group will be Winkler as an inspiring acting teacher. (Deadline)
Newly transformed truTV – their focus is comedy now – has greenlit a quick turnaround for a new show called Late Night Snack. The series will be made up of several shorts, including some from Alec Baldwin and Esther Povitsky, and has been ordered for 10 half-hour episodes, set to premiere March 6 at 11pm. (Deadline)
HISTORY has decided to mix up their intense programming – like Vikings and the coming-soon Six – by launching into comedy. Its new short-form comedy block, Night Class, will premiere with three series: Great Minds With Dan Harmon will feature the Community and Rick and Morty creator traveling through time to interview historical figures played by the likes of Jack Black, Jason Sudeikis and Sarah Silverman; Crossroads of History will examine historically accurate unknown moments in history that shaped the world, like Abraham Lincoln’s alcoholic bodyguard; and How To Lose The Presidency, will showcase real clips of real presidential candidates who ruined their chances at becoming the next President of the United States.
