NBA Finals on Sling TV: Warriors at Cavaliers, Game 4

Jun 10, 2016 by Scott Ross

Reports of the Cavaliers’ demise are greatly exaggerated.

Instead of spending a couple of days obsessing over their obituary, the Cleveland Cavaliers spent their downtime feasting on home cooking and reminding themselves that they’re an elite basketball team vying for a championship. And so, on Thursday, they found themselves on the high side of a 120-90 beatdown in which they held each of the Golden State Warriors’ Splash Brothers to fewer than 20 points for the third game in a row.

All those adjectives that were used to describe how dominant the Warriors were in the first two games? Strike that, reverse it. The Cavs took a 2-0 lead on a Kyrie Irving jumper a minute into play, and never looked back. Ninety seconds later, after a pair of Klay... Read More

Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers, GSW leads series 2-0
(9pm ET Wednesday, ABC)

Just a week ago, a Cavs-Warriors finals promised to join “The Godfather II” and “Empire Strikes Back” among the great sequels of all time. But after the Warriors totally dominated Cleveland Sunday night by a score of 110-77, these Finals feel more like the finishing touches on the greatest season in NBA history.

LeBron James would find Tristan Thompson for a bucket that would put the Cavs up 21-19 to close out the first quarter, despite James (0-5), Kevin Love (1-4) and Kyrie Irving (2-6), combining to hit on just 3 of 15 from the floor. And the Cavs would go up 28-22 early in the second quarter on an emphatic driving dunk by James,... Read More

#Cleveland Cavaliers vs. #Golden State Warriors, GSW leads series 1-0 (8pm ET Sunday, ABC)

If the Cleveland Cavaliers can’t win on a night when Steph Curry and Klay Thompson combine to make 8 of 27 for just 20 points, this series is gonna be over real quick. On Thursday, the Warriors bench picked up the Slack Brothers, outscoring Cleveland’s bench 45-10, and doing all the heavy lifting in a 104-89 victory.

The Warriors finished the first quarter up 28-24, and the second quarter opened inauspiciously for the Cavs, as LeBron James missed a layup and then missed twice more on putbacks. Minutes later, a Kevin Love jumper would get the Cavs back to within 4, but a Draymond Green 2-pointer, followed by a Leandro Barbosa bunny and 3-pointer would... Read More

Steph Curry scored 31 points as the Golden State Warriors staved off elimination on Thursday, defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder 120-111, as OKC’s Dynamic Duo of Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant combined for 71 points, but were off the mark for most of the night. The Warriors’ win has forced a Game 6 tonight in Oklahoma City.

Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant came out shooting, but laid a ton of bricks, hitting on just 4 of 17 for the opening quarter as the Warriors started to slowly pull away, going up 19-10 on a Draymond Green field goal with 3:44 to play. But Durant would score 6 points in the waning minutes, including the final bucket of the frame to close the gap to 25-21 Golden State.

The Cleveland Cavaliers shot the lights out Wednesday, hitting 57% from the floor, including 48% from downtown, as they stuffed the Raptors in their locker, 116-78, to take a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Kevin Love awoke from his two-game slumber to throw a smackdown on the Raptors in the first quarter, scoring 12 points on 4-of-4 shooting, drawing 4 fouls and blocking 2 shots, as the Cavs rode an 11-point run to jump out 37-19 by the end of the first quarter. It would only get worse for the Raptors.

A week ago the Golden State Warriors were patiently awaiting their coronation as The Greatest Team in NBA History. Today, following a 118-94 drubbing Tuesday at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder, they find themselves teetering on the brink of infamy, in danger of being instead known as The Winningest Team in NBA History Not to Reach the Finals, Much Less Win a Title. Doesn’t quite have the same ring, does it? The Thunder, meanwhile, are just a win away from having knocked two of the twelve winningest teams in NBA history out of the playoffs.

What a game: after blowing an 18-point lead, the Toronto Raptors fought back from a 3-point hole with 6 minutes to play to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 105-99 and even the Eastern Conference Finals at two games apiece.

The Raptors took control in the second quarter as Kyle Lowry went off, hitting on 6 of 7 for 15 points, almost single-handedly keeping pace with the Cavs, who collectively scored just 17 in the quarter, and sending his team into the locker room with 57-41 lead at the half.

A 10-point run early in the third quarter pulled the Cavs within 7, but DeMar DeRozan answered by scoring the next 6 points to make it 65-52. The Cavs kept coming, however, as three-pointers from LeBron James, Kevin Love and J.R.... Read More

The Oklahoma City Thunder took it to the World Champs on Sunday, delivering a 133-105 drubbing that put them up 2-1 in the Western Conference finals and proved that Game 1 had been no fluke.

A Klay Thompson drive to the basket midway through the first quarter pulled the Warriors to within a point, at 14-13, but the Thunder promptly went on an 11-0 run to make it 25-13. Golden State would chip away at the lead, however, and by the end of the quarter they were as close as 34-28. The Cavs are not going to win a lot of games with Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving combining to shoot 4 of 28 for 16 points, but you gotta tip your cap to Toronto’s DeMar DeRozan, who scored 32 points, and to Bismack Biyombo, who pulled down a franchise record 26 rebounds, and blocked 4 shots, as the Raptors took Game 3 by a score of 99-84.

DeRozan came screaming out of the gate, scoring 12 points, while Biyombo grabbed 10 boards, as Toronto took a 27-24 lead in the first quarter. The Raptors then rode a flurry of 3’s to a 7-point lead, before going on a 10-point run late in the second quarter that brought the score to 54-37, and at the half, it would be 60-47. As... LeBron James’ 15th career triple-double powered the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday to a 108-89 win over the Toronto Raptors, and staked them to a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals.

But that was as close as they would get, as the Cavs closed out the half with a 16-2 run as James and Kevin Love each scored 6 points, and the Raptors shot 0-for-9 from the floor, scoring only on a pair of DeMar DeRozan free throws.

NBA Eastern Conference Playoff Preview: Can You Ever Bet Against LeBron? Maybe

Atlanta took the NBA by surprise this year and had a playoff spot secured so soon that it made the end of their regular season anti-climatic.

Most people refuse to pick a team to win the Eastern Conference that doesn’t have a player named LeBron James, but the Hawks went 3-1 against Cleveland in the regular season and have home court advantage.

But that’s getting too far ahead. Atlanta has to get through Brooklyn first (which, let’s be honest, shouldn’t be hard) and the Cavs have to put down a Boston team that surprised many by slipping into the playoffs despite a sub-.500 record.

The East, however, isn’t a two-horse race. Chicago is easing Derrick Rose back just in time for the playoffs. It’s not easy recovering... Read More
