PGA Championship Round 3 & 4 Coverage on Sling TV

Jul 31, 2016 by Scott Ross

(Sunday at 9am ET on TNT)
After a few hours of glorious sunshine on Saturday, Mother Nature pounded Baltusrol Golf Club with rain, forcing suspension of the third round of the PGA Championship after just 37 of 86 golfers had finished all 18 holes, and setting the stage for a hectic Sunday – assuming the weather cooperates.

Kevin Kisner and Padraig Harrington had the best rounds of the day, with each shooting a 5-under 65. Kisner was just -2 on the day after 14, but got hot, making birdie on the next three holes, allowing himself to climb all the way from 48th to a tie for 6th at -5. Harrington climbed even further, coming from 61st to a tie for 10th at... Read More

The 2016 PGA Championship's Round 3 on Sling TV

Jul 30, 2016 by Scott Ross

(Saturday at 11am ET on TNT)

The rains fell, the clouds parted and the grounds crew squeegeed, leaving soft fairways and forgiving greens in their wake, setting the stage for a high-scoring day of golf. When it was over, Robert Streb had shot a 7-under 63 to pull into a tie atop the leaderboard with Round 1 leader Jimmie Walker at -9.

Streb, who has just one tour victory on his resume, shot four birdies on both the front and back nine, stumbling only on the 16th hole with a bogey. Walker, who had come into the day with a 1-stroke lead over Emiliano Grillo, kept his cool with a solid -4 on the day to keep a share of the lead. Grillo,... Read More

The 2016 PGA Championship on Sling TV, Day 2

Jul 29, 2016 by Scott Ross

(Friday at 1pm ET on TNT)

Jimmie “Dyn-o-mite!” Walker finished strong with birdies on four of the last six holes to wind up at a 5-under 65 on the day and put himself atop the leaderboard following the opening round of the 2016 PGA Championship. It’s obviously very early in the proceedings, but if Walker to eventually close the deal on Sunday, it would mean that all four majors this year were by guys who’d never before won a major.

Henrik Stenson, fresh off his victory at The Open, recovered from an up-and-down start to shoot 3-under on the back 9 and finish at 67, 2 strokes off the lead and tied for 5th. Among other notables, defending champ Jason Day hit... Read More

2016 PGA Championship on Sling TV

Jul 28, 2016 by Scott Ross

(Thursday at 1pm ET on TNT)

This year’s PGA Championship is being played at Baltusrol, in beautiful Springfield, NJ. It’s among America’s oldest courses, and probably the only one named after the victim of a sensational murder that was later immortalized in fiction.

Baltusrol is notorious for its brutal finish, as it’s the only major golf course to end with two par 5’s, the monstrous 647-yard 17th hole, followed by the comparatively demure 18th hole, which weighs in at 553 yards. Those two holes bring the course to an impressive 7,400 yards, but is still just a par 70.

Phil Mickelson was the last to win a major here, going wire-to-wire at the PGA Championship in 2005. After rains caused a... Read More

U.S. Open on Sling TV

Jun 15, 2016 by Scott Ross

The 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont (Thursday at 10am ET on FS1, 5pm ET on FOX)

The final day of last year’s U.S. Open saw wunderkind Jordan Spieth birdie the final hole to shoot a 69 for the round, 275 for the tournament, and give himself a 1-shot victory over runners-up Dustin Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen. Spieth returns this year to defend his title, coming in as the #2-ranked golfer in the world, trailing only Australian Jason Day, who finished last year’s open in a 3-way tie for 9th at even par.

In preparation for the last time Oakmont hosted the Open, in 2007, course superintendent John Zimmers Jr. and his crew removed roughly 7,000 trees, opening up the fairways immensely. Since then they’ve cleared out another 7,500, reports... Read More
