AC Milan Part Ways With Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic
AC Milan manager, Sinisa Mihajlovic has been sacked by the club in wake of last weekend’s loss to Juventus. Mihajlovic took charge over the summer but now exits the club without completing a full season. Youth team coach, Christian Brocchi will see out the remainder of the season in charge.
Mihajlovic is the third manager to step on-and-off the managerial merry-go-round at Milan since the club sacked Max Allegri in 2014. The Serbian coach, who enjoyed successful spells at Sampdoria and with the Serbian national team, has kept Milan in contention for Europe with the club currently sitting in sixth place. However, Milan is without a win in their last five Serie A matches following the loss to Juve on Saturday.
For Milan’s owner and former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, the real goal was always to get Milan back into the Champions League. And, despite guiding the club into contention for a Europa League berth and a place in the Copa Italia final, Mihajlovic’s Milan is a full 15 points off the pace for a spot in Europe’s elite club competition.
The highlight of Mihajlovic’s tenure came in a 12-match unbeaten run earlier this year. That stretch included a 3-0 win over archrivals Internazionale in the Milan Derby.
With Mihajlovic not even given the chance to see out the remaining six games of the season – as he surely deserved a chance to do – Milan will turn to promoting a promising youth team coach for the second time in as many seasons. The Serb’s predecessor, Pipo Inzaghi, had also been promoted from coaching the youth side. He, too, was relieved from duty after a single season in charge.
Mihajlovic’s replacement, Brocchi, has taken 28 points from a possible 30 in the second half of the season, guiding Milan’s youth side to the top of the standings. The 40-year-old Milan and Lazio midfielder has already taken charge of his first training session.
