Monday in Flushing Meadows, Serena Williams defeated Yaroslava Shvedova 6-2 6-3 for her 308th match win in Grand Slam play, to take sole possession of the record she briefly shared with Roger Federer. Williams will face Simona Halep Wednesday in the quarterfinals, after Halep beat Carla Suárez Navarro 6-2 7-5. The 2009 U.S. Open champ Juan Martin del Potro continued his comeback from injury, enjoying a relatively easy victory over Dominic Thiem, who had to retire with a knee injury while down 6-3 3-2, sending del Potro on to the quarterfinals to face Stan Wawrinka, who beat Illya Marchenko 6-4 6-1 6-7 6-3. And Venus Williams went down 4-6 6-4 7-6 to Karolina Pliskova.
Caroline Wozniacki vs. Anastasija Sevastova

Caroline Wozniacki advanced to her first quarterfinals at the Open with a 6-3 6-4 win over 8th-seed Madison Keys in a brisk 77 minutes, winning on 80 of her first serves, and making just 7 unforced errors to Keys’ 33. Anastasija Sevastova reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal by beating 13-seed Johanna Konta 6-4 7-5. Wozniacki defeated Sevastova 6-3 6-4 in their lone previous match at the 2011 Australian Open.
Novak Djokovic [1] vs. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga [9]
Top seed Novak Djokovic advanced to his seventh U.S. Open quarterfinals with a swift 6-2 6-1 6-4 defeat of unseeded Kyle Edmund. Djokovic has had an unusually easy path through the Open thus far, having played only four and a half sets over the first three rounds, as two opponents have begged off due to injury. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, on the other hand, battle Jack Sock for 3 hours and 13 minutes before emerging with a 6-3 6-3 6-7 6-2 victory to reach his second consecutive Open quarterfinals, and third overall. Djokovic is 15-6 lifetime against Tsonga, including 11 of their last 12 meetings.
The other Singles matches today are 7-seed Roberta Vinci taking on 2-seed Angelique Kerber at noon at Arthur Ashe Stadium, followed by 24-seed Lucas Pouille against 10-seed Gael Monfils.
