NCAA on Sling TV: #2 Kansas at #19 Baylor

Feb 23, 2016 by Scott Ross

#2 Jayhawks vs. #19 Bears (8pm ET Tuesday, ESPN 2)

The Kansas Jayhawks shot 50 percent from the floor and controlled the boards 34-29 on their way to a 72-63 victory Saturday over Kansas State. The win lifted Kansas’ record to 23-4 overall, which helped them maintain their #2 ranking, bring their conference record to 11-3, and secure their position atop the Big 12. But, it was a tough night for Perry Ellis, the Jayhawks’ best player, as he suffered a cut behind his ear that required 12 stitches, and Kansas State used his absence to close within four points. Upon Ellis’ return, he helped right the ship, but then caught a finger from teammate Wayne Seldon in the eye, sending him back to the sidelines with his eye swollen shut. Ellis should be fine for tonight’s game, but man, did he take a beating.

Johnathan Motley, the Baylor Bears’ 6'9" sophomore forward, had the night of his life on Saturday, making 12 of 13 from the floor on his way to 24 points, four rebounds, and two blocks as he led his team to a 78-64 victory over the Texas Longhorns. Just four days earlier, Motley had led the Bears with 27 points, including seven in OT, as they defeated Iowa State 100-91. The 51-point week from Motley brought the Bears to 20-7, 9-5 in the Big 12 and elevated them six spots to #19 nationally.
