NCAA Basketball on Sling TV: Texas Christian vs. #1 Oklahoma

Feb 02, 2016 by Scott Ross

The Texas Christian Horned Frogs have the misfortune of playing in the Big 12, easily the strongest conference in the land, and so they are just 1-7 in conference play and a middling 10-11 overall. But five of their losses have come against ranked opponents, they’ve outscored their opposition in the aggregate, and they’ve played one of the tougher schedules in the country…. all of which is to say TCU is not your average sub-.500 team. On Saturday they snapped a 5-game losing streak, beating Tennessee 75-63, as Malique Trent led TCU with 15 points and 5 assists.

Oklahoma and senior Buddy Hield barely survived a showdown with LSU and superfreshman Ben Simmons, 77-75. Oklahoma won on a Isaiah Cousins jumper with 6 seconds on the clock, but it was Hield who was the hero of the day, scoring 32 points on 11-of-22 shooting, including 7 three-pointers in the second half. On the other side of the ball, the Sooners did a great job of taking Simmons out of the game, as he scored just 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting – none in the final 10 minutes – to go along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. The Sooners have now held the #1 spot in the land for the last three weeks, and a loss to the Frogs, while unlikely, would certainly preclude a fourth.
