Last night in baseball, Matt Moore of the Rays handcuffed the Red Sox for 7 shutout innings, as he surrendered just 3 hits and 2 walks en route to a 4-0 win; Anthony Rizzo, Addison Russell and Albert Almora Jr. all homered to power the Cubs past the Reds 9-2; Miguel Cabrera went 3-for-5 with 2 runs and 3 RBI to lead the Tigers past the Marlins 10-3; Aaron Sanchez allowed just 1 run on 6 hits and 2 walks over 8 innings in the Blue Jays 5-3 defeat of the Rockies; Jose Altuve went 4-for-5 with a double, triple, 4 runs, and an RBI as the Astros overcame the Angels 10-4; the Orioles doubled up the Padres 12-6 as Manny Machado singled and doubled, scored twice and drove in 3; Tyler Goeddel’s 10th-inning pinch-hit sac fly was the difference in the Phillies 9-8 triumph over the Diamondbacks; Max Scherzer pitched 7 ⅓ innings of shutout ball, allowing just 2 hits and a walk, while striking out 10, and Daniel Murphy homered twice against his former team as the Nationals beat the Mets 4-2; Didi Gregorius’ 2-run walkoff homer was the capper on the Yankees’ stunning 6-run rally to overtake the Rangers; Indians starter Danny Salazar was dominant for 7 innings, allowing 0 runs on 5 hits and 0 walks while K’ing 8 in a 3-0 win over the Braves; the Twins batted around in the 9th, scoring 5 runs before White Sox reliever Nate Jones slammed the door to secure a 9-6 victory; Junior Guerra went 8, giving up 0 runs on 2 hits and 2 walks, and striking out 7, and Ryan Braun doubled, homered and drove in 4 runs to lead the Brewers to a 7-0 win over the Dodgers; the Cardinals tied it in the 9th and again in the 10th, but Alcides Escobar’s 12th-inning RBI double that put the Royals up 3-2 was too much to bear; Jed Lowrie and Yonder Alonso each hit 2-run homers in the A’s 7-1 defeat of the Giants; Sean Rodriguez scored twice and drove in 4 runs, and James Taillon pitched 6 innings of 1-run ball, while striking out 6 to help the Pirates win 8-1 over the Mariners.
