It’s a big news day for our friends at Google. Among the many announcements shared during their press event this morning, you may have heard the words “Sling TV.”

What does Sling TV have in common with Google today? One word: Chromecast.

At launch, Sling TV on Chromecast will work with the gadgets you already own, including Android smartphones and tablets, iPhones and iPads. We’re also working on future compatibility for Windows and Macs.

We’ll post again once Sling TV is live on Chromecast, so check back and... Read More

A Status Update: 8/23 service issue identified and solved

Aug 28, 2015 by Sling Staff

Every day, we take actions to improve our service delivery to you. On Sunday night, system issues crept up that impacted the experience for some of our customers.

Earlier this week, we traced down the source of the matter: one of our mobile apps was making high-load calls on a key database. This is typically not much of a concern given the huge processing capacity built into our system; however, a caching error compounded the issue and added previously unseen processing cycles that interrupted the service for some.

All that is a technical way of saying previous updates we made did not work as expected. More importantly, we have resolved the problem.

Our team has worked tirelessly to develop a fix and our apps are now behaving correctly. We... Read More

WATCH: Sling TV CEO Roger Lynch gets “infected,” AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead-style

Aug 22, 2015 by Sling Staff

We’re not only passionate about bringing you the best live and on-demand TV experiences, we’re also passionate followers of the shows, too. Just like many of you, we’re fanatical about AMC shows, including The Walking Dead. That’s why we wanted to give you an insider’s view of AMC’s brand new series, Fear the Walking Dead, before it airs this Sunday.

AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, the companion series to The Walking Dead, is set in Los Angeles at the beginning of the apocalypse. We’re so excited about the new series that we worked with KNB EFX Group to create an exclusive sneak preview of the scariest characters on the show – the infected. And we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the premiere than morphing our own CEO,... Read More

Comcast-Owned NBC Blocks Sling TV Ads

Jul 30, 2015 by Roger Lynch

We recently learned that NBC blocked Sling TV’s new advertisements from airing on its owned and operated (O&O) stations. For anyone who needs a reminder, Comcast – the standard bearer for “Old TV” in the U.S. – owns the NBC broadcast network, and by extension, its O&O stations across the country. At this time, NBC’s O&O stations in San Diego, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. have rejected the ads.

This action stands in contrast to the fact that our ads are currently running across ABC, CBS and Fox O&O stations and affiliates, as well as independently-owned NBC affiliates (emphasis on “independently-owned,” or in other words, not owned by Comcast).

Here’s the irony. The refusal to air our campaign endorses the ads’ central truth: there are traditional pay-TV players... Read More

WATCH: New Sling TV Ads #TakeBackTV

Jul 20, 2015 by Glenn Eisen

Today marks an important day for Sling TV: we officially debut our first marketing campaign called #TakeBackTV. Designed specifically for millennials and inspired by their frustration with the traditional pay-TV model, our new ads are an anthem for entertainment fans who reject “Old TV” but love watching sports and their favorite shows live and on demand.

Our new campaign features kids personifying “Old TV” by heckling customers with the pain points of cable, including long-term contracts, expensive programming bundles, high prices, hidden fees, and poor customer service. It’s an exaggerated, over-the-top and funny look at how millennials view something they reject – “Old TV.”

Check out the three ads below. Have fun with them – we did. Go ahead and share them with a few thousand of your closest friends.... Read More
