U.S. Open: Round 3 Preview
Another one bites the dust as Serena Williams tallies up another victory against Kiki Bertens (Netherlands). During her round 2 meetup, Williams stumbled upon occasion, but ended the match 7-6, 6-3.
She will go head-to-head with Bethanie Mattek-Sands (U.S.) at 7pm ET Friday.
In round two, Novak Djokovic faced a slightly tougher opponent than in round one, but still walked – or danced – away with the win over Andreas Haider-Maurer (Austria). With a close first set of 6-4, Haider-Maurer fell to the wayside with 6-1, 6-2 losses in the next two sets.
Djokovic will face number 25 ranked Andreas Seppi (Italy) in round three Friday morning.
Simona Halep defeats Ukrainian Kateryna Bondarenko who presented more of challenge for Halep at 6-3 and 6-4.
Halep sits comfortably as the number two women’s seed as she heads into round 3 against Shelby Rogers (U.S.).
Andy Murray worked clumsily through the first two sets and ended up losing both 5-7, 4-6 to Adrian Mannarino (France). Murray finds his rhythm in set 3, winning 6-1, making that set a turning point in the match for Murray. He forces a 5th set, scoring 6-3 and 6-1 to win. This match marks the eighth time Murray has worked his way from being down 2 sets to a victory.
Murray will face Thomaz Bellucci (Brazil) in the third round.
Roger Federer continues to breeze through the opposition in round 3. Belgium player, Steve Darcis falls to the number 2 seed 6-1, 6-2, 6-1.
Federer will continue his march to the title in round 3 against Philipp Kohlschreiber (Germany).
Caroline Wozniacki, currently ranked number 4 in the world, fell to her Czech opponent, Petra Cetkovska, currently ranked 149th, in round 2. Wozniacki seemed to be making a come back from being down a set to leading 6-5 in the deciding set, but Cetkovska saved four match points before scoring on the tie-break to win 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-1).
