CC Sabathia took a long road back from ineffective pitching, weight loss, bad knees and alcohol abuse to work his way back into the Yankees’ rotation, and for more than two months, he was the CC of old. After pitching 6 innings of 1-run ball against the Twins on June 16, Sabathia was 5-4 with a 2.20 ERA, thanks largely to having allowed just 2 home runs in 65 ⅓ innings. Since then, however, in three starts against the Rockies, Rangers, and White Sox, he’s gone 17 and a third, given up 23 hits – including 4 home runs – and posted an ERA of 8.31.
Danny Salazar has to be in the conversation about who should start the All Star Game for the AL, even after stumbling on the 4th of July, by giving up 3 runs on 8 hits and a walk over 5 and two-thirds, earning a no-decision against the Tigers in a 5-3 Indians win.
