America bore witness on Wednesday as Alex Cobb pitched 6 ⅔ innings of 2-hit, 1-run ball, and Kevin Kiermaier and Logan Forsythe each hit 2-run homers to lead the Rays over the Blue Jays 8-1; the Cubs blanked the Cardinals 7-0 to clinch a playoff spot, as Jon Lester went 8, giving up just 3 hits and a walk, while fanning 8; Luis Perdomo outdueled Madison Bumgarner, giving up just 1 run over 6 ⅓ innings, as the Padres bested the Giants 3-1; Clayton Kershaw regained his old form, giving up 1 hit and 0 runs over 5 innings, but had to leave early due to a rain delay, as the Dodgers squeaked past the Yankees 2-0; Wilson Ramos’ solo homer was all the scoring as the Nationals beat the Mets 1-0, behind 7 shutout innings from Tanner Roark; Mark Trumbo’s solo homer was all the scoring as the Orioles beat the Red Sox 1-0, behind 8 shutout innings from Kevin Gausman; Tommy Joseph homered and scored 3 times to put the Phillies over the Pirates 6-2; Ian Kinsler had 4 hits, 3 RBI, 2 runs, and 1 homer to power the Tigers past the Twins 9-6; Marcell Ozuna homered and had 4 RBI in the Marlins 7-5 defeat of the Braves; Junior Guerra pitched 6 scoreless innings, and Domingo Santana hit a 3-run bomb as the Brewers blanked the Reds 7-0; the A’s shut out the Royals 8-0, as Sean Manaea pitched 5 scoreless, and Khris Davis drew 3 walks, had 2 RBI and scored a run; Coco Crisp’s 3-run homer in the 6th put Oakland out of reach, as the Indians beat the White Sox 6-1; the Astros doubled up the Rangers 8-4 as Marwin Gonzalez had a pair of RBI, and played 1st, 2nd and 3rd base; Jean Segura went 5-for-6 with a pair of home runs, 3 runs scored, and 3 RBI to power the Diamondbacks past the Rockies 11-6; and Hisashi Iwakuma gave up just 1 run over 6 ⅓, and Kyle Seager and Nelson Cruz each homered to give the Mariners a 2-1 victory over the Angels.
