We as a people bore witness on Wednesday to our generation’s greatest ballplayers doing great baseball things, like Noah Syndergaard, who scattered 6 hits and 4 walks over 5 shutout innings, as the Mets bested the Reds 6-3; the Kevin Kiermaier went 3-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI to power the Rays’ 7-6 win over the Orioles; Chicago batted around in the 8th, plating 4 runs as the White Sox beat the Tigers 7-4; Jharel Cotton pitched 6 ⅓ innings of 1-run ball, and Ryon Healy hit a solo homer to lift the A’s past the Angels 4-1; Jung Ho Kang’s 8th-inning homer was the difference in the Pirates 4-3 defeat of the Cardinals; Bryan Mitchell pitched 5 innings of scoreless ball as the Yankees blanked the Blue Jays 2-0; Wilson Ramos’ bases-loaded single in the 11th gave the Nationals a 5-4 walk-off win over the Braves; Mike Napoli hit a 2-run homer and Brandon Guyer hit a 2-run double in the 5th to lead the Indians to a 6-5 win over the Astros; The Miami Marlins shutout the Phillies 6-0, behind 5 ⅓ shutout innings from Andrew Cashner and Martin Prado’s 3 RBIs; Jonathan Villar hit a pair of solo homers and Matt Garza pitched 6 shutout innings to give the Brewers a 2-0 win over the Cubs; Robbie Grossman went 3-for-4 with an RBI single and a solo homer as the Twins vanquished the Royals 6-5; the Rockies gutted the Giants 6-5 with a 3-run 9th-inning rally capped by Christian Adames’ 2-run pinch-hit double; Boston moved into sole possession of first in the AL East, as David Price struck out 8 over 7 innings of 2-run ball in the Red Sox’ 7-2 win over the Padres; Adam Lind hit a grand slam in the 1st, and a solo homer in the 3rd to power the Mariners past the Rangers 8-3; and Brock Stewart pitched 5 innings of 1-run ball and Yasiel Puig hit a sac fly in the 1st, and a solo homer in the 6th to lift the Dodgers over the Diamondbacks 3-1.
