Over his last five starts, Jacob deGrom has pitched 32 ⅓ innings, striking out 31 and walking 11, while giving up 25 hits and posting a 3.06 ERA, and for his efforts, he’s taken a no-decision each time, with the Mets going 2-3 in those games. The losses were by scores of 4-3, 3-2, and most recently, 2-1, in a game against the White Sox in which deGrom whiffed 10 over 7 innings, and allowed just 1 run, on a solo homer. Man, that has got to be frustrating…
Juan Nicasio’s return to the starting rotation is offering diminishing returns following a promising beginning. In his first five start, Nicasio threw 27 innings with a 3.33 ERA and 29 strikeouts; his next five starts yielded: 26 IP, 34 H, 20 R, 9 BB, 22 SO, 5 HR for a 6.23 ERA. On Thursday, against the Marlins he went 6, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 4, and got no decision in a 4-3 loss.
The rains came to Pittsburgh last night, washing out the scheduled matchup between the Mets Steven Matz and the Pirates Jonathon Niese, a game that has been moved to 4pm today.
