Thursday night saw the Cubs’ Jake Arrieta throw his second no-hitter in as many seasons, and his teammates pounded out 18 hits in a 16-0 drubbing of the Reds; Clayton Kershaw unveiled a new pitch, a 46-mph Eephus, as he scattered 10 hits over 8 innings in a 2-1 win over the Braves; Robinson Cano capped a 3-for-5 night with a 10th-inning 3-run homer for a 10-7 Mariners defeat of the Indians; Bryce Harper’s solo shot was the Nats' lone run in a 5-1 loss to the Marlins; the Red Sox’ high-priced free agent David Price got lit up again, surrendering 8 runs in 3 2/3, setting the stage for a 12-8 loss to the Rays; Ricky Nolasco pitched 6 ⅓ innings of 1-run ball with 7 K’s, and the Twins turned 11 hts and 9 walks into a 8-1 win over the Brewers; the Angels’ Jered Weaver went 7, giving up just 1 run, and Mike Trout homered, to defeat the White Sox 3-2; Tyler Wagner pitched 5 innings of shutout relief to lead the Diamondbacks to a 6-2 win over the Giants; Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs as the Orioles beat the Blue Jays 3-2; the vaunted Yankees bullpen fell back to Earth, at least for a day, giving up 5 runs in 3 innings in a 7-3 loss to the A’s; Edinson Volquez threw 7 shutout innings as the Royals blanked the Tigers 4-0; future Hall of Famer Adrian Beltre went 3-for-4 as the Rangers got to Dallas Keuchel for 6 runs on 13 hits in 7-4 win over the Astros; Gerrit Cole pitched 6 shutout innings and 7 Pirates had at least one RBI as Pittsburgh knocked the snot out of the Padres 11-1.

Most importantly, His Purple Highness, Prince Rogers Nelson, passed on to a world of never ending happiness, where you can always see the sun, day or night.
