Mike Bolsinger was a solid presence in the back of LA’s rotation last year, pitching 109 ⅓ innings with a 3.91 ERA, and subsequently was slated to be the Dodgers’ fifth starter this year, but instead opened the season in the minors, rehabbing from a strained oblique. He’s made just two starts this year, the first one a spot start that earned him a quick trip back to the minors, as he gave up 3 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks, striking out just 2, in 4 ⅓ innings in an 8-1 loss to the Angels. Undaunted, he returned on May 24, faring much better: 5 ⅔ IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 SO.
Jon Lester, like most of all the Cubs, has been fantastic in 2016, showing the form that led Chicago to back the money trunk up to his house two offseasons ago. His lone bad start came last week, as the Giants roughed him up for 5 runs in 2 ⅔ innings, but he bounced right back Friday against the Phillies, giving up 2 runs on over 6 ⅓, while striking out 7. Dude still can’t throw to first base, however.
The Dodgers did the unthinkable on Tuesday, beating Jake Arrieta 5-0, with Corey Seager going 3-for-5 with a homer and 3 RBI, and Scott Kazmir allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk over 6 shutout innings, while striking out 7. It was the first game started by Arrieta that the Cubs have lost since July of 2015.
