(All times Eastern, starters subject to change)

St. Louis Cardinals (Wainwright 9-5, 4.16) at Cincinnati Reds (Straily 6-6, 3.84)
7:10pm ET on FS1

Adam Wainwright was slapped around by the Mets in his last start, giving up 11 hits, but somehow limiting the damage to “just” 4 runs and taking a no-decision in what turned out to be a 5-4 win for the Cardinals.

The Cards on Sunday got loogy Zach Duke (2.63 ERA, 37 ⅔ IP) from the White Sox to bolster their pen, and push Jonathan Broxton (3.92 ERA, 41 ⅓ IP) and Trevor Rosenthal (5.13, 33 ⅓ IP) down the depth chart, but on Monday suffered a big blow when word came that rookie shortstop Aledmys Diaz has a broken thumb and will miss the next few weeks. St. Louis is 56-49 following yesterday’s 5-4 walk-off loss to the Marlins, and they trail the Cubs by 8 in the NL Central, but they’re just a half-game back in the Wild Card race.

Dan Straily is enjoying his first healthy season since his rookie campaign of 2013. Since moving to the rotation on April 18, Straily hasn’t missed a turn, and according to Game Score, has made just 5 below-average starts in 19 trips to the hill. Yes, the strikeout rate (7.2/9IP) is too low, and the walk rate (3.7/9IP) is too high to inspire confidence, but maintaining a .500 record on a .400 team is no mean feat. In his last start, Straily held the Giants to just 1 run on 3 hits and a walk over 7 ⅔, as he beat them for the second time this season.

At 42-62, the Reds are proud owners of the third-worst record in all of baseball, trailing the Cubs by 21 ½ in the NL Central, and 14 games out of the Wild Card race. They officially threw in the towel on 2016 on Monday, trading away NL RBI leader Jay Bruce to the Mets
