On Thursday, Americans bore witness as the Mariners topped the Orioles 7-2 behind Nathan Karns’ 5-inning, 1-run performance, and Adam Lind’s 3-run homer in the 6th; Junior Guerra held the Cubs to 3 runs over 7 innings, and struck out 11, as the Brewers won 5-3; Gregory Polanco’s 2-run homer in the 2nd gave Pirates’ starter Jeff Locke a 5-0 lead that was more than enough, as he went 7 and gave up just 2 runs for a 8-2 win over the Braves; the Nationals beat up on the Mets 9-1, as Washington’s Stephen Strasburg K’ed 10 in 6 innings, while New York’s Matt Harvey imploded, surrendering 9 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks in 2 ⅔ innings; Carlos Santana went 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk, 2 runs, and 4 RBIs to power the Indians past the Reds 7-2; Matt Carpenter pounded out 3 hits, scored 2 runs and drove in 6 more as the Cardinals out-slugged the Rockies 13-7; Chris Sale earned his Major League best 9th win of the season with a 4-hit, 1-run complete game over the Astros; Troy Tulowitzki’s single in the 11th drove in the winning run, as the Blue Jays beat the Twins 3-2; Jeff Samardzija shut down the Padres, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits, while walking none and striking out 8 in a 3-1 Giants win; Mike Trout homered and drove in 3 runs to lead the Angels past the Dodgers 7-4; and Carlos Beltran homered and doubled, and Ivan Nov pitched 6 innings, giving up just 1 run on 4 hits, to help the Yankees beat the A’s 4-1.
