Yesterday in Major League Baseball, Anthony DeSclafani held the Braves to 2 runs on 8 hits over 8 innings as the Red won 6-3; Max Kepler’s solo shot in the 9th broke a 1-1 tie, and Eddie Rosario’s 2-run homer put the game out of reach in the Twins 4-1 victory over the Tigers, who wasted a great start by Justin Verlander; The Cubs' Anthony Rizzo hit 2 home runs, and Kyle Hendricks pitched 6 ⅓ shutout innings to lead the Cubs past the Mets 6-2; the Indians erupted for 3 homers and 7 runs in the 5th en route to an 11-4 beatdown of the Royals; the Cardinals swept the Padres in a day-night doubleheader, winning 4-2 behind Carlos Martinez’s 7-inning, 2-run performance, and then 3-2 as Jedd Gyorko drove in all their runs with a pair of homers; Time Beckham went 5-for-5 and Chris Archer struck out 11 over 6 innings as the Rays beat the Rockies 11-3; Doug Fister went 7 sorceress as the Astros blanked the A’s 7-0; Leonys Martin’s second homer of the night gave the Mariners a 6-5 walk-off win over the White Sox in the 11th; Darwin Barney and Josh Donaldson each had 2 runs, 2 hits and 3 RBI, and Marcus Stroman pitched 8 innings of 1-run ball in the Jays 10-4 defeat of the Diamondbacks; Drew Pomeranz was dreadful in his Red Sox debut, but Hanley Ramirez hit 3 2-run homers to fuel Boston’s 11-7 win over the Giants; the Yankees won their 4th in a row, beating the Orioles 5-0, with Michael Pineda striking out 8 over 6 shutout innings, and Carlo Beltran hitting his 20th homer of the season; by the time Bryce Harper’s 20th homer of 2016 finally came back to Earth in the 3rd deck of Nationals Park, the home team had won 8-1 over the Dodgers; Jeremy Hellickson fanned 8 over 8 1-run innings, and Tyler Goeddel homered and had 3 RBI in the Phillies’ 4-1 victory against the Marlins; Jonathan Lucroy scored a run and drove in 3 despite hitting only a single in the Brewers’ 9-5 win over the Pirates; Jefry Marte’s 3-run shot in the 1st was the big blow as the Angels bested the Rangers 7-4.
