On Tuesday in America, the Cubbies roughed up Pirates starter Gerrit Cole for 6 runs in 4 ⅔ innings, on their way to a 7-2 win; Nomar Mazara’s 8th-inning homer was the difference in the Rangers 2-1 win over the Blue Jays; The Giants’ Johnny Cueto got touched for 6 in the 3rd, but Brandon Crawford bailed him out with a homer and 4 RBI, en route to a 9-6 win over the Reds; Bartolo Colon continued to defy Father Time with a 7 K’s in 8 shutout innings against the Braves, as the Mets won 2-1; Mike Trout went 4-for-5 with a homer and 3 RBI, but it was all for nought, as the Brewers beat the Angels 8-5; heralded Twins rookie Jose Berrios notched his first big league win, going 5 ⅓ while giving up 2 runs (both on solo homers) on 3 hits and 5 walks while striking out 8; the Nats’ Gio Gonzalez blanked the Royals for 6 innings, setting the stage for a 2-0 win; Adam Wainwright gave up 3 runs in the 3rd, only to tie it up in the 4th with a 3-run bomb, as the Cardinals beat the Phillies 10-3; the Mariners’ Nori Aoki scored what proved to be the deciding run in the 7th by stealing third and then taking home on a throwing error for a 4-3 win over the A’s; Matt Kemp’s 2-run double in the first was all the offense the Padres needed to defeat the Rockies 2-1.
