The Tigers’ Anthony Gose had a double, a homer and 2 RBI to lead Detroit past the A’s 7-3; Jake Arrieta won his 16th consecutive decision, despite an underwhelming performance (5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 6 SO), as the Cubs beat the Brewers 7-2; the Pirates and Rockies were postponed due to weather; Aaron Nola threw 7 shutout innings and his teammates rallied for 3 in the ninth as the Phillies swept the Nats with a 3-0 win; Manny Machado belted a grand slam and an RBI double, as the O’s pounded the White Sox 10-2; the Braves discovered the best remedy for an 8-game losing streak: Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz, who gave up 5 runs in 6 ⅓, as Atlanta beat Boston 5-2; D’backs starter Rubby De La Rosa pitched 7 innings of shutout ball, giving up just 2 hits and 2 walks, while whiffing a career-high 10 batters in a 3-0 defeat of St. Louis; and the Dodgers’ Kenta Maeda took the first loss of his Major League career, as he surrendered 4 runs on 7 hits and a walk in 6 ⅔ innings in a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Marlins.
