In the world of baseball yesterday, Marco Estrada held Baltimore to 1 run on 4 hits and a walk over 7 innings to lead the Blue Jays to a 5-1 win over the Orioles; the Nationals shutout the Phillies 4-0 behind 7 innings of 4-hit ball from Tanner Roark; Mookie Betts had a homer, a double, 2 runs and 2 RBI, and Rick Porcello became the Majors’ first 18-game winner as the Red Sox slapped around the Rays 9-4; Trevor Bauer pitched 6 shutout innings, and Jason Kipnis hit a walkoff single in the 10th to give the Indians a 1-0 win over the Twins; Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s 2-run homer in the 8th was the difference in the Tigers 4-3 defeat of the White Sox; the Mets walked off 2-1 winners over the Marlins following Yoenis Cespedes’ solo shot in the 10th; Carlos Martinez fanned 13 over 6 innings, and Stephen Piscotty scored the winning run from second on an errant throw by Jonathan Villar to give the Cardinals the edge 6-5 over the Brewers; Seattle’s Pat Venditte struck out Elvis Andrus with his right arm and then fans Nomar Mazara using his left arm, but Yu Darvish struck out 9, and Carlos Beltran doubled and homered, with 2 runs scored and 2 more driven in to lead the Rangers past the Mariners 6-3; after tying it in the bottom of the 9th with a solo homer from Jorge Soler, the Cubs beat the Pirates 8-7 on a pinch-hit single in the 13th by Miguel Montero; the Astros blanked the A’s 6-0, as Jose Altuve hit a solo shot, and Alex Bregman hit a 2-run single; Alcides Escobar’s 3-run homer in the 7th was the big blow in the Royals’ 8-5 victory over the Yankees; Jon Gray struck out 8 over 6 shutout innings, and DJ LeMahieu drove in 3 runs as the Rockies pounded the Dodgers 8-1; Mike Trout and Albert Pujols hit back-to-back home runs in the first to send the Angels on their way to a 9-2 drubbing of the Reds.
