With the center of pop culture revolving around Star Wars: The Force Awakens , it’s no surprise Disney struck while the iron was hot and renewed Star Wars Rebels for a third season. The second season is set to wrap up on December 12 at 9:30pm ET on DisneyXD. (Collider)
Jennifer Lopez’s ABC Family (soon-to-be Freeform) show, The Fosters, has been renewed for a 4th season while it’s taking a winter hiatus, which is set to return January 25 at 9pm on ABC Family (Freeform). (TheWrap)
The Girls are back for season 5 and they’re growing up. In the season 5 trailer, we see Shoshanna has taken a job in Japan; Hannah is still with Fran; and Marnie is maybe getting married. While this isn’t the last season for girls, Lena Dunham – the show’s creator and director – has mentioned in interviews season 6 may be when the lights go out on these New York City 20-somethings. Adult Swim has announced the glorious return of Samurai Jack in 2016. The show originally aired from 2002-2007 for 4 seasons under creator, Gerry Tartakovsky, who is also returning to the captain’s chair for the reboot. (Entertainment Weekly)
The History Channel has ordered episodes of the docudrama Barbarians Rising, an 8-part series about the rise and fall of the Roman empire. The series will feature characters of the 9 greatest warriors, including Spartacus and Attila The Hun. (Deadline)
TruTV is finding some success under it’s new brand: Way More Fun. The network has renewed its first scripted series, ‘Those Who Can’t’ even before the series premieres, which is scheduled for February 11, 2016. The second season is set to air sometime later in 2016. TruTV has also expanded its content base by ordering the pilot of Shady Neighbors (working title), which follows a couple who are feeling financial pressure that is driving them to divorce. When the discover how expensive it would be to split up, the pair find alternate ways to finance the split. (Deadline)
