Yesterday across Major League Baseball, Justin Upton cranked a pair of 3-run bombs to power the Tigers’ 10-5 win over the Red Sox; Jose Ramirez’s 2-run shot in the 8th gave the Indians a 3-2 defeat of the Blue Jays; 20-year-old phenom Jose Urias threw 6 shutout innings as the Dodgers blanked the Reds 4-0; the Rays doubled up the Rangers 8-4 behind Logan Forsythe’s 3-run homer and Steven Souza Jr.’s 2-run homer; Jace Peterson nearly knocked himself out of the game with a twisting catch in the 3rd, then his home run in the 10th gave the Braves a 7-6 walk-off win over the Nationals; the Cardinals shutout the Phillies 9-0, as Mike Leake scattered 7 hits over 7 innings, while fanning 8; Dee Gordon scampered home on a wild pitch in the 5th to score the go-ahead run in the Marlins' 3-2 victory over the Pirates; Jose Quintana allowed just 2 runs on 8 hits over 7 innings to lead the White Sox past the A’s 4-2; Danny Duffy ran his record to 11-1 by pitching 6 ⅔ innings of 1-run ball, as the Royals squeaked past the Twins 2-1; Jhoulys Chacin pitched 5 ⅔ scoreless innings and Andrelton Simmons hit a pair of RBI singles as the Angles shutout the Yankees 2-0; the Brewers gut-punched the Mariners 7-6 with a 4-run 9th that featured homers by Keon Broxton and Chris Carter, and was capped by Scooter Gennett’s RBI single; the Rockies pounded the Cubs 10-4, behind Nolan Arenado’s pair of 3-run homers; the Padres beat up on the Diamondbacks 9-1 thanks in part to Patrick Kivlehan’s 2-for-2, 2 walk, 3 run, 1 RBI night; Dallas Keuchel surrendered just 2 runs on 5 hits and a walk while striking out 7 over 8 innings as the Astros beat the Orioles 5-3; and Noah Syndergaard pitched 8 scoreless innings, giving up just 2 hits and a pair of walks while fanning 6, and Yoenis Cespedes hit a 2-run homer in the 7th to lead the Mets over the Giants 2-0.
